The Scottish Lib Dems at their Perth Conference have backed the campaign to keep Britain's rock archive in Edinburgh. The motion - proposed by Edinburgh South Parliamentary Candidate Fred Mackintosh - calls on the British Geological Survey to keep the National Offshore Oil and Gas Rock Archive at Gilmerton where it will be safe and most accessible to industry and academic users.

At their conference in Perth today the Scottish Liberal Democrats have approved detailed plans to deliver a green energy revolution to Scotland and to achieve the ambitious carbon reduction targets in the Climate Change (Scotland) Act.

The failure of the SNP Government to introduce new rules for class sizes means that P1 classes in many popular schools in Edinburgh South are likely to have more than 25 pupils from August. The news follows a commitment in September 2009 by the then Education Secretary Fiona Hyslop to introduce regulations that would set a limit of 25 for new P1 classes from the start of the August 2010 school year. In 2008 a court case exposed the guideline limit of 25 in P1 as unenforceable.

Fred has joined Liberal Democrat candidates in key seats across the country in signing up to the campaign.

Sat 20th Feb 2010:

Edinburgh South Liberal Democrats Mike Pringle MSP and Parliamentary Candidate Fred Mackintosh have added their voice to widespread industry and academic opposition to the proposed transfer of the UK's national archive of offshore geological cores from Gilmerton in south Edinburgh to Keyworth near Nottingham. Mike Pringle MSP has simultaneously written to the National Audit Office regarding its investigation into the planned move, exposing several apparent flaws in the business case put forward by the British Geological Survey.

Along with concerned local residents Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate Fred Mackintosh has objected to plans by Hallam Land Management to build new homes on farmland in the greenbelt at Burdiehouse Lime Kilns. Read his email letter of objection.

On Monday 15 February 2010 the Edinburgh South Liberal Democrat team of Mike Pringle MSP, prospective MP Fred Mackintosh and local Councillor Conor Snowden visited Hallam Land Management's exhibition of their preliminary proposals for around 100 new homes at Burdiehouse. Over the previous weekend Fred and the Lib Dem team had delivered thousands of letters to local residents to ensure they knew of the exhibition proposals.

Edinburgh South Liberal Democrat candidate Fred Mackintosh took Nick to visit the Meadows Nursery as the Liberal Democrats are going into the General Election promising to tackle social divisions by investing in quality education for everyone.

Edinburgh South Liberal Democrat Westminster Spokesman Fred Mackintosh has hit out at so called "rate jacking"; the practice of banks and lenders suddenly increasing the rate of interest on credit cards, sometimes by as much as 10%.

Local resident and campaigner Fred Mackintosh has welcomed the news that construction work will start on new traffic lights at the junction between West Savile Terrace and Mayfield Road on Monday 8 March. Following concerns at the number of accidents between cyclists and drivers, the Council is to install traffic lights and pedestrian phases at this dangerous junction.
